Space Quarters

Space Quarters, founded in 2022 in Tokyo, is a Japanese spacetech startup developing robotic construction systems to build large structures in space. Originating from Tohoku University research, the company is creating an autonomous electron-beam welding robot that can assemble modules in orbit or on the lunar surface. This technology allows the on-site construction of space infrastructure (such as large satellites, orbital platforms, or lunar bases) by joining metal components in space, overcoming the size limitations of launch rockets. Space Quarters has conducted ground demonstrations with partners like JAXA and industry firms, and its small team (around 10 employees) has secured seed funding to advance towards on-orbit trial missions in the late 2020s.
