Tokyo-based startup focused on orbital debris removal and satellite servicing.
Astroscale, founded in 2013, is a Japanese company spearheading space debris removal and on-orbit servicing. Headquartered in Tokyo with offices worldwide, Astroscale is developing technologies for satellite life extension, in-situ space situational awareness, end-of-life deorbiting and active debris removal. The company’s ELSA-d demonstration mission launched in 2021 to test orbital debris capture using a servicer spacecraft and a client dummy satellite. Astroscale is working with agencies like JAXA and ESA on missions to remove defunct satellites and spent rocket stages, aiming to ensure sustainable space operations.
