BDS produces satellites (for communications, navigation, weather and reconnaissance), spacecraft (such as the CST-100 Starliner crew capsule and X-37B spaceplane) and components of launch systems (including core stages for NASA’s Space Launch System). It also co-owns United Launch Alliance. BDS is a major contractor for U.S. military and civilian space programs, supporting NASA, the Department of Defense, and allied space efforts. The division has roughly 18,000 employees (2025) in the U.S. aerospace sector.
