Starcloud

Starcloud, originally called Lumen Orbit, is a US startup founded in 2024 that is building orbital data centers equipped with high-performance servers powered by large solar arrays. The company’s demonstrator satellite, launching in 2025, will carry high-end GPUs and onboard computing to train AI models in space, reportedly providing 100x more powerful GPU performance than ever flown. By leveraging abundant solar power and vacuum cooling in space, Starcloud aims to scale up to gigawatt-level computing capacity in low Earth orbit, reducing strain on Earth’s power grids. This approach could enable next-generation AI training without the environmental constraints of terrestrial data centers.
